my name is jo and i like to make stuff.

all kinds of stuff. i like to draw. i like to paint. i like to build things out of wood, knit wooly sweaters, mush around clay, take photographs, crochet hats for my cat, needle felt small angry eggs, and more. i like to make good cups of tea and delicious food. i like to build communities and connect with people. to sum it all up, i like to create joy for myself and others.

jo studio is the culmination of that - the overarching thought that i hope encompasses this wild world of imagination and creativity that i have put together for myself.

oh? did you want something more than my general philosophy? that’s all the way down here.

although i am a lifelong creative, my formal education takes shape as a B.F.A. in industrial design from the university of illinois at urbana-champaign. turns out, i don’t want to be an industrial designer. however, you do learn a lot in order to become one and those tools are incredibly helpful if you want to do other creative things. i am now well versed in photoshop, lightroom, and illustrator, can do cad 3d rendering, handle most power tools, properly photograph a prototype, design a marketing campaign, and a lot more other stuff. so that’s nice.

i worked as a graphic designer for three years, building a digital and physical brand for illini hillel. through this i’ve learned a lot about creating and working within a brand, putting together web pages, making graphics for social media, running social media campaigns, and designing merchandise.

outside of that, i started a small print shop selling stationery, art prints, and stickers in the fall of 2020. shortly after i started live streaming content on twitch, which led to the creation of the greenhouse, an online community that i have fostered of creatives and creatively-minded people. long term, i would love to break in to the field of illustration and help storybooks come to life.

thanks for being here, all are welcome. i hope you find something that makes you smile :)
